Preparez-vous!!! This place is veeeery different from the usual landscapes. Its green color is incroyable, unbelievable. The deep cliff of the Gorges du Verdon is unique in Europe and is one of the greatest tourist attractions in Provence.
In the midst of a nature reserve, rich in flora and fauna, the scenery here is astonishing. Never really discovered until the beginning of the century, the Verdon Gorges have since then fascinated innumerable visitors, There is no doubt that the sight is imposing! It is breathtaking. C'est épatant!!!
This terrific location, with its spectacular views of the canyons, (D71 and D23) makes Aiguines very attractive to climbing enthusiasts. In the village there is a restored Renaissance castle and tourists can find a good selection of activities with which to discover the area.
In 2006, my first time over there, I stayed in Aiguines, at the hotel Le Vieux Château (60€). A very confortable and low price hotel. The village is tiny but extremely plaisant. The sunset is woooonderful!! Sit over the bench in front the Lac de Sainte Croix, as turquoise-green as the river, and watch the sunset show, le spectacule du soleil.
Moustiers Sainte Marie, a touristic town, 14km away from Aiguines, is very graceful and it may be visited during the afternoon. Having 16 workshops and 30 sales outlets of earthenware tiles, Moustiers is the leading area for this craft in France and has a world wide reputation. But it is not suitable to stay there due to the noisy tourists.
