PONT DU GARD (Languedoc - Roussillon)

A building of 2000 years that gets the attention of all visitors'eyes. I think even the Romans consider the Pont du Gard as an impressive 49 m high engeneering, the highest bridge built by them. Made with enormeous blocks of stone fitted by an ingenious system of pulleys.
This is a bridge built on 3 leves to ensure continuity of the aqueduct that brought water from Uzès to Nîmes in the Gard river crossing. It was probaly built in the first century BC.

When in Avignon, be sure to visit this wonderful Roman monument.
